The Village International School (TVIS) showcased its commitment to global awareness and diplomatic education by hosting the second edition of its vibrant Model United Nations (MUN) conference on October 31, 2023. This prestigious event saw the participation of six dynamic committees, each addressing unique global agendas, and achieved the successful passing of crucial resolutions. The six committees that took part in this year's MUN conference were: UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMME (UNEP): Agenda: Integrating indigenous knowledge systems and post-humanist approaches to promote sustainable development. Resolutions: The UNEP committee tackled the issue of sustainable development by integrating indigenous knowledge systems and post-humanist approaches. The delegates successfully passed resolutions aimed at creating a more sustainable and inclusive future. INTERNATIONAL BANK FOR RECONSTRUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT (IBRD): Agenda: Policy Proposal for Addressing Governmental Malfeasance to Promote Fiscal Sustainability and Enhance the Efficacy of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). Resolutions: In the IBRD committee, delegates focused on addressing governmental malfeasance to enhance fiscal sustainability and the effectiveness of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). They worked collaboratively to pass resolutions aimed at promoting economic growth and regional cooperation. UNITED NATIONS HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION (UNHRC): Agenda: Deliberating upon the right to freedom of speech and its limitations on grounds of law and public order and its impact on the freedom of the press. Resolutions: The UNHRC committee delved into the complexities of freedom of speech and its limitations. Delegates successfully passed resolutions aiming to strike a balance between freedom of expression, the rule of law, and the freedom of the press. ORGANISATION OF THE PETROLEUM EXPORTING COUNTRIES PLUS (OPEC PLUS): Agenda: Exploring new methods for the utilization of oil reserves with a special emphasis on Latin American and African oil reserves while considering the issue of sanctions and their effects on global oil trade. Resolutions: The OPEC PLUS committee explored innovative methods for utilizing oil reserves, particularly in Latin American and African regions, while considering the impact of sanctions on global oil trade. Resolutions passed emphasized sustainable oil resource management. UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY (LEGAL) (UNGA): Agenda: Deliberating upon the usage of Responsibility to Protect (R2P) and its legalities in the current contemporary paradigm, developing a framework for its safe usage worldwide with a focus on responsibility and accountability. Resolutions: The UNGA Legal committee examined the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) and its legal implications in the contemporary world. Delegates successfully passed resolutions that emphasized responsible and accountable usage of R2P worldwide. ABDA High Command, 1942: Agenda: The Pacific Theatre. Resolutions: Simulating events from the Pacific Theatre in 1942 during World War II, the ABDA High Command committee discussed and passed resolutions related to strategies in the Pacific Theatre, highlighting historical accuracy and military cooperation. The MUN conference at The Village International School was a testament to the dedication, hard work, and diplomatic skills of the participating students. It provided an opportunity to develop research, public speaking, and negotiation abilities while fostering a deeper understanding of critical global issues. The TVIS MUN conference was an enriching experience that not only polished students' diplomatic skills but also emphasized the vital role of youth in addressing global challenges. It was a platform for students to voice their ideas, engage in diplomatic discourse, and work together toward building a better world. The Model United Nations conference was a resounding success as it helped the students with their diplomatic and communication skills. The Village International School (TVIS) took another stride towards nurturing future diplomats and global leaders by organizing a workshop on "How to Organize and Participate in Model United Nations" led by the experienced and renowned trainer, Mr. Siddhartha Bedi, and this workshop proved to be an invaluable learning opportunity for TVIS students. Mr. Siddhartha Bedi, who boasts extensive expertise in the field of Model United Nations (MUN), led the workshop, sharing his knowledge and insights gained from years of experience. In a related development, 11 TVIS students are gearing up to participate in the upcoming La Martiniere Model United Nations, scheduled to take place from November 3 to 5, 2023. The training received at the workshop will undoubtedly prove instrumental in enhancing their performance at this prestigious MUN event.
